Make a Banana Pudding Ice Cream Treat

Homemade banana pudding ice cream is easy to make in an electric ice cream freezer. Serve it to guests, or freeze it for later.

The banana pudding ice cream recipe I’ll be sharing with you is one of my favorite ice cream freezer recipes because of three reasons. It is so simple to prepare, my family likes it, and it reminds me of eating banana pudding.

Making Homemade Ice Cream is Fun with the Kids

My grandchildren love helping me make ice cream – and eat it. Making homemade ice cream in an ice cream freezer is a fun activity to do with your kids and grandkids. I have fond memories of helping make homemade ice cream when I was growing up, especially in the summer. However, ice cream is a favorite of many people throughout the year. Of course, indulging with ice cream on a hot summer day is extra tempting.

Manual Ice Cream Freezer Making

If you’re as old as me, you’ll recall the manual type of ice cream freezer with the crank. As the ice cream began to freeze, the crank became harder to turn. The freezer I have now came with both electric and manual options.

The ice cream took a while to turn the crank and freeze but was incredibly sweet and delicious – probably because it had rich raw eggs in the ingredients. Back then, I had never heard of needing to be concerned with salmonella when eating homemade ice cream made with raw eggs like there is today.

The Recipe

I love the richness of homemade ice cream made with eggs. However, this recipe does not include eggs.

Ingredients

  • 2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 1 can sweet condensed milk
  • 3 small to medium bananas, mashed
  • 1 tbsp vanilla flavor
  • 2 cup 2% milk
  • 1 bag ice
  • 2 cup rock salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ice cream freezer according to its directions to make the ice cream.

  2. Add all ingredients except the 2% milk in a blender and mix.

  3. Pour the blended mixture into the ice cream canister.

  4. Add the 2% milk into the canister.

  5. Put the lid on the canister, attach the ice cream freezer motor, and add the ice until it is about two inches from the top (follow your freezer's instructions for this).

  6. Pour about 1-1/2 cups of rock salt on top of the ice.

  7. As the ice melts, add more ice and sprinkle the rest of the rock salt on top of the added ice.

  8. When the freezer motor stops, the ice cream should be ready to eat.

  9. If you want the ice cream to be harder and you're not eating it right then, put it in freezer containers and store in the freezer until you're ready to eat it.

  10. Serve with Cool Whip and Mini Vanilla Wafers.

Top with Cool Whip and Vanilla Wafers

If you prefer to skip the Cool Whip, the ice cream tastes wonderful even without it. You may also eat the ice cream without the cookies. But the banana ice cream with the whipped topping and vanilla wafers is much like eating banana pudding. Oh my, it’s good!
