Benefits to Kitchen Garden Salsa

The best thing about growing a kitchen garden is the salsa. Choose sweet, hot, mild, or spicy. You can change up the recipe every time you make it or keep the same one if you like it that much.

What do I like about making my own garden salsa? It’s fresh. Organic. Right outside the kitchen door. When I have everything to make it but a jalapeno, I don’t have to drive to town to buy a pepper.

You can always have salsa on hand. If you don’t have any freshly made, you don’t have to wait. It only takes a little time to grab a few veggies from the garden, rinse them, chop and mix them in the blender.

Didn’t cook any vegetables for the meal? No problem. Salsa goes with breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Add as many vegetables as you want in it.

Salsa Ideas

Need to expand your ideas for salsa? I asked my FaceBook friends what they eat salsa on. Here are a few of their ideas, along with mine, on what to eat salsa on or with:

  • Chips and cream cheese (YUM!)
  • Scoops and Doritos (this made me wish I had Scoops in the pantry)
  • Baked potatoes – I haven’t tried this one yet, but I’m going to.
  • Eggs – any kind: omelets, scrambled, fried, egg burritos, egg salad sandwich
  • Salsa (my crazy fun friend said he eats his salsa on salsa)
  • Burritos and tacos
  • Tuna salad sandwich
  • Chicken salad sandwich
  • Rice and beans
  • Crackers
  • Carrots (dipping carrots in salsa is how I lost weight before)
  • Detox salsa
  • Greek yogurt as a dip
  • Sour cream as a dip
  • Guacamole
  • Juevos Rancheros
  • Spanish rice
  • Peas, any kind: purple hulls, black-eyed, crowder
  • Black beans, chili beans
  • Chili
  • Brown rice and pulled pork – Angie’s Sweet & Spicy Salsa on top of my Crockpot Pulled Pork & Brown Rice recipe tastes OMGoodness Good!!! See the recipe to this salsa and pulled pork and brown rice recipes.

Sometimes I make my salsa only from the garden veggies. Other times I mix them with a can of this or that. It usually depends on if the garden is summer or winter and what I have on hand in the pantry.

I asked my FaceBook friends if they make their own salsa or buy it. A couple of them said they buy theirs. One of the brands is Arriba fire roasted salsa (sounds VERY good). I haven’t tried this one yet. Do you make your own salsa or purchase it at the supermarket? I love to make my own, but I do buy it occasionally.

My hubby loves salsa! On burritos, eggs, chips, or whatever it sounds good on. He’s my salsa critique person and always compliments me on my salsa. But there are certain ones that he absolutely loves, and he’ll tell me, “Write this one down.” Angie’s Sweet & Spicy Salsa made it on the write-this-one-down list. I hope you enjoy it!

  1. This sounds weird, but it’s delicious. I love to dip sections of celery into the salsa and eat it. It’s a low carb way to eat one of my favorite foods. You should give it a try.

When I was on Weight Watchers years ago, I dipped carrots in salsa. I think I dipped celery in it, too. My weakness, though? Dipping carrots and celery in peanut butter. 🙂

  2. I love salsa too! I really should make more when I am buried in summer tomatoes. Hopefully this summer!

Carlee, yes, you have to. I had a ton of tomatoes last summer and made salsa all the time. It was great.

  3. I’m a salsa addict, and I’m hungry just thinking about all of the different kinds.I like homemade best, and my favorite would be guac or pico. 🙂

LOL. Me, too, Dee. I love salsa. Pico – I didn’t list that one.
