Homemade peach ice cream makes an ideal dessert for a hot Labor Day event. And even after the last summer holiday is over and folks are eager for fall to arrive, summer doesn’t officially end this year in the Northern Hemisphere until September 23rd. That leaves plenty of hot days to enjoy your favorite homemade ice cream.

Ice Cream-Good for Every Season

…and the homemade kind is the best!

Fresh or Frozen Peaches

There’s nothing like making homemade ice cream with fresh summer peaches. But even when it’s not peach season, there’s no reason you can’t have peach ice cream. Fresh peaches are the best, but thawed frozen peaches will do.

What You’ll Need to Make this Recipe

The peach homemade ice cream recipe below is simple to make. You’ll need a blender…

and an electric ice cream freezer.

You probably already have some of the ingredients on hand. If you keep the basic ingredients for homemade ice cream in your kitchen (like rock salt, a bag of ice in your freezer, vanilla flavor, etc.), you don’t have to run to the grocery store to whip up a batch of ice cream.

It’s a good idea to stock up on peaches, strawberries, and other fruit when they are in season and store them in the freezer. Slice bananas before they get too ripe, and freeze them. Then add the fruit to your basic homemade ice cream recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 cup Heavy whipping cream
  • 3/4 cup Sugar
  • 1 can Evaporated milk
  • 1 can Sweet condensed milk
  • 3 Medium peaches, peeled and sliced Take the skin off, discard the seed, and slice.
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla flavor
  • 2 cup 2% milk
  • 1 bag Ice
  • 2 cup Rock salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ice cream freezer according to its directions to make ice cream.

  2. Add all ingredients except the 2% milk in a blender and mix.

  3. Pour the blended mixture into the ice cream canister.

  4. Add the 2% milk into the canister and stir.

  5. Put the lid on the canister, attach the ice cream freezer motor, and add the ice until it is about two inches from the top (follow your freezer's instructions for this).

  6. Pour about 1-1/2 cups of rock salt on top of the ice.

  7. As the ice melts, add more ice and sprinkle the rest of the rock salt on top of the added ice.

  8. When the freezer motor stops, the ice cream should be ready to eat.

  9. If you want the ice cream to be harder and you're not eating it right then, put it in freezer containers and store in the freezer until you're ready to eat it.

  10. Serve with Cool Whip and Mini Vanilla Wafers.

Once the ice cream is done, be sure to dip it out with a non-metal or a silicone spoon or spatula so the ice cream container doesn’t get scratched. If you’re serving several guests, you may not have any leftover ice cream. However, if you’re preparing the ice cream for yourself or for two, purchase good freezer containers to store the remaining ice cream.

More Peach Ice Cream Treat Ideas

Try these treat ideas if you like peach cobbler:

  1. Dish out peach ice cream into a cup, heat about one-half cup of canned peaches in the microwave, and pour the hot peaches over the ice cream. Top it with mini vanilla wafers, or crush vanilla wafers on top as a garnish. So easy and yummy, and it’s like eating peach cobbler fresh out of the oven.
  2. For the coconut lovers, heat up one or two tablespoons of German Chocolate icing (either homemade or store-bought) in the microwave. Serve over peach ice cream. The icing has a yummy buttery flavor and is an alternative to peach cobbler.

It’s nice to have an ice cream freezer at home because you can make your own ice cream and keep the leftovers in the freezer. Although homemade peach ice cream is one of my favorites, I do like vanilla and banana flavors. And if you love banana pudding, take a minute to check out this great ice cream recipe, Banana Pudding Ice Cream.

Enjoy the rest of your summer, and stay cool with your

favorite homemade ice cream!
