This Brussels sprout recipe will make your family want to eat more vegetables. Perhaps, we could entice our children and grandchildren to enjoy fruits and vegetables more simply by changing how we season, cook, and serve them. For example, adding bacon (as was done with these sprouts) or experimenting with new spices can do the trick. Who doesn’t like bacon? Even vegans and vegetarians like its flavor and try to find a near substitute.

Roasting can be done in the oven as well. One of my favorite oven-roasted veggies is asparagus seasoned with garlic and olive oil. Besides Brussels sprouts and asparagus, the following foods also taste good when roasted:

  • zucchini
  • yellow summer squash
  • cabbage
  • green beans
  • red potatoes
  • sweet potatoes
  • onions
  • bell peppers
  • carrots

Try roasting any other vegetables not listed on this list. Be creative. I enjoy coming up with new recipes by looking at what I have on hand in the fridge or pantry. If you’re not sure about how to roast vegetables or which ones can be roasted, check out “How To Roast Any Vegetable” at thekitchn.com.

Brussels sprouts look like mini cabbages. Both are from the cruciferous family. However, there is a difference between the two vegetables. Check out the recipes and article about Brussels sprouts history by Amy Sowder on chowhound.com.

When I first ate Stove-Top Roasted Brussels Sprouts, I didn’t want to stop eating. They’re incredible! The flavor. The crispiness. And oh…that bacon! My daughter prepared the dish, and I asked her to make it again. Together, we cooked, took photos, and videoed the process. So fun. So delicious.

Our Brussels sprouts were roasted on the stove, but they can be prepared similarly in the oven, slow cooker, or pressure cooker (my most used method of cooking lately, especially in the summer).

How to prepare Brussels sprouts

Always wash them. Preferably, cut the bottom stems off. I have skipped this last step at times if the sprouts are washed well and are going to be boiled. In this recipe, they bottoms were cut and disposed of.
