Fudge Brownie Gooey Cake

Ever craved something chocolate, but your oven wasn’t working? I had one of those days about a month ago. The fixer-upper cabin kitchen had an issue, and I couldn’t use the oven to bake. So out came the slow cooker. I went to the store for a fudge brownie mix. Since I hadn’t ever made a chocolate or brownie cake in “Old Blue”

My Rival Crock-Pot

(my old faithful Rival blue Crock-Pot my mother-in-law gave me), I went on a Pinterest search.

Going on a Pinterest dessert search kicks my creative self into action. The recipes all look so good. But when I look at what I have on hand, I have to improvise unless I want to make extra trips to the store. Sometimes I plan ahead and make a list. Other times, I come up with on-the-spur-of-the-moment recipe ideas. The Fudge Gooey Brownie Cake was one of these. Ingredients varied from one recipe to another in my search. I wanted to make one with chocolate chips. The closest ones were a lava cake and brownie cake. Recipes differed on instructions as well.

My gooey cake tasted very moist and so chocolaty and definitely satisfied the chocolate craving I had. That same week I started out trying to satisfy my chocolate craving by making a cup lava cake. It tasted good, but I wasn’t totally happy with it. Then I made this brownie pudding cake. Although it tasted wonderful, I thought it was way too liquidy in the center and cooked it about 3-1/2 hours. One of the recipes that inspired me mentioned about the center staying jiggly until it’s done. Well, mine was jiggly so I kept watching it. Finally, I took it out at 3-1/2 hours (this could also be due to the difference of slow cookers) because I didn’t want it to be too dry on the sides. I served it a’ la Mode for my husband, and he really liked it. If he likes it, it’s good because he’s not too crazy about sweets.

Though I made up my own recipe, it was similar to the two listed below. If you try my recipe, I would also recommend these that inspired me:

  1. Hot Fudge Crock Pot Brownies
  2. Slow Cooker Brownie Pudding

I’m open to any slow cooker chocolate desserts you suggest. Hey, if it’s chocolate, I’m all ears!
