What are your favorite restaurants to dine at on your birthday? A few of mine are (depending on my food mood at the time):

  • Olive Garden
  • Gaido’s Seafood Restaurant in Galveston, Texas
  • Cheesecake Factory

Last Friday, January 8th, was my birthday (yes, it’s the same as Elvis Presley’s). My daughter and granddaughters and I went out for a late breakfast – French toast. When I was asked where I wanted to eat for my birthday dinner, I thought of Olive Garden and Cheesecake Factory but wasn’t sure what I was in the mood for (I was still full from French toast at the time). Cheesecake Factory it was. Lettuce wraps, fried macaroni, and carrot cake cheesecake were my choices – plenty to share with family and friends. I think I could have eaten it all by myself except for the lettuce wraps. That’s way more than what one person can eat.

Cajun style seafood has often been at the top of my list for favorite foods for a long time. Years ago some friends, now my nephew’s mother and father-in-law, owned a seafood restaurant in the Sabine Pass community of Port Arthur, Texas. They had the best barbecued fried crabs ever. I ate several birthday dinners there. My family and I always ordered the all-you-can-eat choice on the menu. It included the barbecued crabs, fried shrimp, sometimes fried oysters, baked potatoes, and more.

Then my husband and I ate at Gaido’s in Galveston. A fine dining restaurant with white tablecloths to boot, Gaido’s menu includes one of my most favorites soups, a seafood bisque. Bisque is a French creamy, smooth, and seasoned soup.

Growing up on the Gulf Coast, I was fortunate to dine at several of the finest seafood restaurants. In my years of traveling across the U.S., seldom have I eaten at seafood restaurants as great as those on the Gulf Coast.

  1. Happy belated birthday! It sounds like you had a full day. I imagine that the seafood restaurants down there are amazing especially with access to so much fresh seafood. Yum. My stomach is growling. I’ve never had barbecue fried crabs. How do they make them?

Thank you! I’m not exactly sure how they cooked the crabs. Possibly, they boiled them first then deep fried them in a spicy seasoning. They were absolutely the best I’ve ever had!!
